Daring Jumping Spider Catches a Katydid

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

This is the largest daring jumping spider I’ve ever seen, and in the time between when I first spotted it and when I got the picture, it managed to catch an even larger Katydid.
This is a fresh kill you’re looking at.

Greenbottle Flies Are Masters of Decay

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

This one was resting on a tigerlily.

This one is on a Hasta leaf.

Bees and Hastas

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

This honeybee was on its way into a Hasta flower today.

This bumblebee was on its way out.

Some Frogs, Just Doing Their Thing

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

These frogs were keeping very still, possibly stalking breakfast.

Check out that reflection!

Summer, and Snakes Are in Swamps

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

This snake was sunning itself when I walked by.

When I came back later, it was hiding in the water.

It does a good job of staying hidden, I think.

Obligatory Inchworm Post

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Most inchworms I see are light green, but this one looked like it would be best hidden on tree bark.

I can’t seem to go on a camping trip without finding and photographing an inchworm.
