Building a Belt Grinder From Scratch: Part 3 – Crowning

The pulleys for the work surfaces have arrived, and it’s time to crown them.

Since they’re rubberized, the lathe won’t work for this. Instead, I made up a jig to pass them over the table saw blade at the proper height to completely level off the wheel.

I used the cheese wheel to both turn the pulleys quickly and keep my fingers safely away.

I cut into the ends to provide a slight crown, although I’m worried that the concavity might cause the belt to track the wrong way if it gets far enough over.
