There was a lot of rust on the sander that came with the rusty ShopSmith. I fully disassembled and cleaned it.
The most worrisome part was this overtightened torsion spring. Replacing it would not be an option, so could it be repaired?
In the end, I simply stretched the spring a bit and cut away the bent part. There was enough left to fill the necessary space.
The other problem was the bent arm on the table.
I used the arbor press to flatten it.
The results were very satisfactory.
