Not a blue beetle in the Stephen King sense (for those of you who get the reference), but an actual iridescent blue insect that was largely indifferent to being handled.
This is the way we found it, clinging to the leaf.
It became apparent that I could move the leaf around to get a better shot without scaring it (that or it was nearly dead).
Eventually, I just picked it up. I’d say it was eating the leaf if it hadn’t been in that hunched-over position the whole time.
